Name: Bob McHenry (TDY 8th Aerial Port Squadron) | Dec 03, 2016 |
Email: Comments: Hello, I need buddy statement from a room mate. I stayed in his 8th Aerial Port Squadron barracks, in Jul/Aug 1972. E-4 or E-5 if I remember correctly. Some funny things took place he would certainly remember. Trying to find members of the unit, who were there at that time frame, so I can ask them if they remember the two incidents and thus my TDY there. I came in from Detachment 6, 6th Aerial Port Squadron at U-Tapao, Thailand on Verbal Orders of the Commanding Officer (TDY VOCO). Unfortunately First Sergeant has passed away and the Commander does not remember (possible dementia). I failed to file paperwork since I travelled on a C-130 both ways, stayed in the barracks and ate in the dining hall for most of my meals. Really dumb but I was a recently promoted E-5 and there was no real cost beyond my normal expenses, so I did not file. Serious mistake I am now paying for dearly. Any names/contact info you can provide is greatly appreciated. I do recognize you may be reluctant to give out contact information, so I am more than willing to write out a more detailed explanation which you could forward to anyone you know form back then and they can respond to me, if they are the individual I stayed in his room. I also dealt with the First Sergeant who might recall me and a PAX fellow who initially refused me a ride until I got MSgt William Hill, PAX fellow himself and my acting First Sergeant on the phone. Any assistance you can provide me is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Bob McHenry |

There is a Heritage Room at the 377th SFG at Kirtland that has a number of neat memorabilia from the Vietnam era forward. The Unit Commander of the SFS would like to have some heritage photos, patches, posters badges in their own squadron building to illustrate the Unit's proud history and to help motivate the younger troops with an awareness of those who went before them. Doesn't necessarily have to be a Vietnam overview, but anything dealing with 377th APS/SPS/SFS history. Any donations of noted items would be much appreciated. POC is: Maj Brenton M. He flew cargo and troop carriers and I remember that he also took a side job flying high ranked officials from base to base in a small plane while at TSN AB. His CO at TSN AB was Ernie Triplett and a very close friend. They both later went on to the 63rd at Norton AFB. I’m looking to get in touch with anyone who served with either of them at TSN AB, or specifically knew my father. Thank you, Jonathan H. Leavitt |

I remember there was an area on the base where there was a beer stand that sold beer "33" (better known as bam-moi-bam) and beer Larue, there were some local concession shops, like a barber shop, a leather store where some of had leather shoes made, and 2 others but their service I do not remember. Email: Comments: Only discovered the site this past week, found it very interesting. There is little information about the Tan Son Nhut Air Base pre-1966. While I was TDY from Misawa AB, Japan as an engine mechanic in support of the 45th TRS (Polka Dots) Jan 1965 - Apr 1965, operation "Able Mable." "Able Mable," was an operation that began early in the 1960's, flying photo recon over the South Vietnam and Laos. The RF 101Cs came from either Kadena AB, Okinawa or from Misawa. I remember there were a couple of aircraft that came from Shaw AFB, in South Carolina, that aircraft was the first camo aircraft as the others were the original grey at that time. We lived in one of the many tent cities that were there at the time and it was near the cemetery that was on the base. Between Misawa and Kadena the recon missions rotated every six months. Thanks, Jerry Zerm FROM THE WEB MASTER: We invite you to write a short story about your time at Tan Son Nhut Air Base. We would like to see a photograph of you at Tan Son Nhut and some of your photographs about tent city and etc. |

Email: Comments: I'm looking for information on a small unit called Army Air Cargo. I was in the Air Force 8th Aerial Port Squadron (PACAF) and stationed at Tan Son Uhut Air Base from Sept. 1968 to Sept 1969. My job title was Air Freight Specialist. But I, along with other Air Force personnel, were assigned to a small unit called Army Air Cargo. Our job was to load this cargo, transported to us from incoming airplanes, onto Army convoy trucks going to Army supply bases. I worked with a bunch of swell guys and I would like to find them if possible. I did locate one, a good friend, John F. Mitchell living in Duncansville, PA. I would like to find others also like AF Sgt. (E4) Larry Dye, Sgt Kelly (E4), and some others I can't remember their names. Army Air Cargo must have been unique because I can't find out anything about it. It would be nice to have a reunion with my friends from the Army Air Cargo Unit. I currently live in central California. Thanks, Sgt. (E4) Cecil J. Hutchens |

Email: Comments: Each year, the city of Westerville, Ohio, hosts an event “Field of Heroes” over the Memorial Day weekend. It is spectacular to say the least. This year 3,000 American Flags are featured. Each one is placed in honor of an individual. In addition, this year there is a special tribute to women who served in the military with a display of 4,600 ceramic poppies. There are other events held in connection with this display over the weekend (speakers, color guards, concert, etc.). Thought you might like to see some pictures. My Tan Son Nhut Association hat and bracelet attracted a lot of attention from fellow veterans and the general public. Hope everyone has a good holiday weekend. David J. Butler |

Email: Comments: While my wife and I were in Gulf Shores, in April, had and unusual meeting. We own a condo at Emerald Greens Gulf Shores. My wife and I went to shop at Public shopping store. My wife decided to wait in the car while I ran in for a few groceries. When I returned a man was standing next to my car talking to my wife. He was Joe Balch, from Grant Alabama. We are from Janesville Wisconsin and a long ways from home. Well Joe spotted my TSN Decal on my car. My license plate is Sigon. As I approached him I knew something must be going on. He spotted my "TSNA Decal" and wanted to talk to me. We must have exchanged info for half an hour. The meaning of this letter is for everyone to place thier Decal on their car. As we travel south it never fails as car and motorcycles pass we are often given a toot of the horn or a salute as they pass us. Joe if you’re reading this is a small world. I have had my Decal on my van for ten years and only met one other person, I met at Janesville Wisconsin at a car wash. I pulled up behind him and saw his decal. We also had a nice talk but have lost contact. John F. Mayfield |

Name: Justin Osborne | Mar 04, 2016 |
Email: Comments: Hi, my name is Justin Osborne. My dad was Darrin Richard Hurdel. He served in the 116th Transport Co. as a heavy truck driver starting on 25 Sep 1967. Then on 24 April 1968 he was in the 110th Transport Co as a Repair Parts Specialist, thru the end of his tour in September of that year. He had been a volunteer and served that one tour. He didn't talk a lot about the war, and we had become estranged by 1998. Unfortunately he passed away in 2011 before we could speak again. It had been a very long time. I recently requested info from the archives center, but they don't say a whole lot. All I can do is this; to ask questions of people who were there to maybe gain some kind of insight into my father and maybe not have such a huge question mark taking up an equally huge part of my life. I'm almost 45 now and I need to know. I wonder if anyone knew him, or was there in the same companies or battalions at the same time, even. I need to know something. Anything. What did he do in the war? What did he see? What exactly did the 116th and 110th do in those time periods? He said that he had served as a gunner on a Huey too, and I'm thinking yeah maybe it's possible. Army says do this, then you do this. Especially during that period of the war. Anyway, I'm just looking for a few answers from anyone who has something to say or share with me about my dad or the companies he served in. I would be grateful to hear from you. Email: Comments: Hello to all my fellow Veterans. Been awhile since I posted here. Last fall I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, an Agent Orange presumptive. I filed an FDC and received my temporary 100% Service connected disability about 4 months later. In November 2015, I underwent radiation seed implant. They injected 92 seeds into my prostate. I am still undergoing follow-up checks, which will continue every 3 to 6 months for probably as long as I live. The Docs say my prognoses is good. I would like to hear from any others here that have gone through an Agent Orange issues. Also, what information is available about Agent Orange flights flown out of TSN? Best wishes to all, Stan Hutchison MSG/ US Army (Ret) HQ MACV 1968 - 1969 FROM THE WEB MASTER: A long email was sent to Stan Hutchison |

Email: Comments: Hello, I accidentally found your organization while searching online for my patch from Viet Nam. I was in the Air Force in the 33rd Camron (Consolidated Air Maintenance Squadron) at Tan Son Nhut, from October 1964 to October 1965. I was an Aerospace Ground Equipment Repairman (AGE) also known as “Ground Power”. I am having serious memory problems, possibly from my exposure to Agent Orange, since my equipment serviced the Ranch Hand C-130’s that sprayed Agent Orange. I don’t remember the names of people I worked with but thought by joining your organization one of them might see my name and remember me. Hoping to clarify my memories from Nam by talking to others I worked with. Thanks, Larry Jones USAF 1962 - 1966 |

Email: Comments: I found your site as I was trying to figure out which unit my dad served with while he was at Tan Son Nhut. It was awesome to see a post (See below) made by my dad detailing the information, I was looking for, posted by him in Jan 2002. Sad to say but my father lost his battle with cancer on 24 Sep 2011. I would love to hear from anybody that knew my father and could share some of his stories from his time in Vietnam. Michael C. Email: Comments: All, I believe that God allowed us to survive the TET Offensive, Jan 31, 1968, for a reason. He wasn't through with us. It is our job to carry on the love he gave us and allow others to survive also. Please pray for all of us that are still fighting the 1968 TET. I hope someday I will be over it. Johnnie PS: Thanks for those that saved us that night (0-51 Bunker) and others. |

Email: Comments: There was also an attack on the My Canh Floating Resturant (or as the GI’s called it the Hungry Eye) restaurant on the Mekong River, that killed and wounded many servicemen. Do you happen to know the dates of that incident? Also in mid 1965. Guess I am getting too old to remember the details. Thank you again for your continued service. Perry E. Email: Comments: I am writing a book titled, "My Viet Nam War Stories" and can not remember nor can I find any news accounts of the Air Terminal Bombing at Tan Sun Nhut Air Base, in the middle of 1965. I arrived there in April 1965 with the 363rd Field Maintenance Squadron, with RF-101’s and RB-66’s with the big push. Do you or your folks have any information regarding this bombing? Email: Comments: Recently the C-123 Veterans win with the IOM and ultimately the VA, opened the doors for AO Presumption of Service connection for Veterans at Clark AB PI, who regularly serviced the C-123's spray planes. Is there anyone with your association who would have any information on the Secondary Field Maintenance Service provided to RH at the 405th Field Maintenance Squadron, Clark Air Base, especially in 1964-65? The Air Force has no history of any RH C-123s flying into Clark during that time period and are denying Veterans their due benefits. Any help that your organization could provide on this issue would be a blessing to these wrongfully disinfranchised Veterans. Please note that this is an urgent request. The more time that goes by the greater the fight. Dying Veterans are being denied VA benefits as we speak. Thanks, Trish Graves |

Email: Comments: The TSNA has reached another grand milestone. Well, so has the world! The "Big 2015" is leaving and making room for the "New Baby 2016!" In a lot of ways, it is like a redo and a do over. If one missed an opportunity last year, do it in 2016! If one did something last year and it missed the mark you wanted to achieve, for Pete's sake, get up and do it again! The TSNA is growing and leaving it's footprints in every state, and Australia, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Can you believe it??? Next September, 2016, your Family Reunion is calling the attendance roll in Huntsville, Alabama. Show up!!! Report as "Gently Suggested" and have an awesome time. Oh, yeah, y'all will have an awesome time or remember that I shall be taking names. Seriously, we have members who have gone to their last post! Come and join us, and we will celebrate, remember and honor all those who have gone home much too early!!! Peace, love and honors to y'all!!! Janice Jones P.S. Happy New Year 2016, you Warriors and Band of Brothers and Sisters!!! Hooorahhh TSNA!!! |
