Comments: I always look for the signs of a veteran and active duty service!!! Either a vehicle decal or sticker, a hat or jacket, etc. When I see the signs, I will always start talking to the
individual!!! I believe all who have or ARE serving this Great Country should be thanked for their service!!!
I was pumping gas yesterday and noticed that the vehicle next to me had a Vietnam Veteran sticker on
the rear window!!! I talked to the gentleman pumping the gas for that vehicle and asked him what years he was over there? Then I asked him what base? When he told me it was Tan Son Nhut,
I asked him if he was a member of TSNA??? He didn't know we had an organization!!! So I gave him my card and wrote the website on the back!!! So hopefully we will get another member in the
near future!!! His name (I THINK) was either Walt or Carl (The old mind is a terrible thing) and he was from Pennsylvania!!! (If it was warmer than 10 degrees I would have tried to write his information down

I am the historian for the 6th Battalion, 56th Artillery (HAWK). My Battalion was stationed in Vietnam as a HAWK missile battalion. We provided air defense of the Tan Son Nhut/
Bien Hoa vital areas. The 6th Battalion, 71st Artillery (HAWK) provided air defense of the Cam Ranh Bay/Nha Trang vital areas. Both Army HAWK missile battalions where under the operational control of the
97th Artillery Group (AD) station at Tan Son Nhut Airbase. The 97th Artillery Group (AD) was assigned to US Army Vietnam and under the operational control of the 7th US Air Force.
97th Artillery Group personnel
were located at the 7th USAF Control and Reporting Post (CRP) on Hon Tre Island, and the 7th USAF Control and Reporting Post (CRC) at Tan Son nhut Airbase.
I am attempting to collect information pertaining to the
operation and coordination of the Air Force (CRCs) and the 97th Artillery Group. The type of information that would be most helpful are organizational charts, maps, photographs, orders and any other information that
you may deem important or interesting of this joint Army-Air Force air defense operation in the Republic of Vietnam.
Thank you in advance for any and all assistance in this matter.
Sincerely,

Comments: Here it is, another year has passed since the last, "Pearl Harbor Day!"
According to some statistics, we have lost several hundreds more of our heroes from that terrible war. We
must all remember them. Let us all take a minute or two to remember their efforts in our fight for freedom. They were involved in a tremendous effort to stop Hitler's machine. They did it, and
we are still free.
Those who gave their all must never be forgotten, any more than those who gave their all in our war. At the rate they are passing, it won't be long till we won't have any of those true heroes left
to thank.
So, let's thank them on this day.
RIP our brothers and sisters.

WARNING TO VETERANS:
Forwarded by Kevin Secor, VSO Liaison, Office of the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
An organization called Veterans Affairs Services (VAS) is providing benefit and general information on VA and gathering personal information on veterans.
This organization is not affiliated with VA in any way.
http://www.vaservices.org/us/index.html
VAS may be gaining access to military personnel through their close resemblance to the VA name and seal. Our Legal Counsel has requested that we coordinate with DoD to inform military installations, particularly
mobilization sites, of this group and their lack of affiliation or endorsement by VA to provide any services.
In addition, GC requests that if you have any examples of VAS acts that violate chapter 59 of Title 38 United States Code, such as VAS employees assisting veterans in the preparation and presentation of claims for benefits, please
pass any additional information to Mr.Daugherty at the address below.

The Veterans History Project (VHP) collects and preserves the remembrances of American war veterans and civilian workers who supported them. These collections of first-hand accounts are archived in the American
Folklife Center at the Library of Congress for use by researchers and to serve as an inspiration for generations to come. The Project collects remembrances of veterans who served in World War I, World War II, the Cold
War, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War (1990-1995), or Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts (2001-present) U.S. citizen civilians who actively supported war efforts (such as war industry workers, USO workers, flight
instructors, medical volunteers, defense contractors, etc.) are also invited to share their valuable stories. VHP relies on volunteers throughout the nation to collect veterans' stories on behalf of the Library of Congress.
These stories are made available to researchers and the general public, both at the Library in Washington, D.C., and via the VHP website.

Comments: My name is, Richard H. Zahner and was at Tan Son Nhut from May 1966 to May 1967.
I am U. S. Army and I was under MACV1 Saigon, attached to Pacific Stars & Stripes Newspaper.
My job was to distribute the Pacific Stars and Stripes newspaper to various units and other airbases in Vietnam, including DaNang, NaTrang, Bien Hoa and other units throughout South Vietnam.
Pallets of papers were loaded
onto a C-130 and I went with various flights most of the time to make sure of their delivery. I was not a combat photographer or writer, nor did I see combat action, I am actually a Transportation Movements Specialist
(71N20).
In 1966, I volunteered to go to Vietnam from my duty assignment at Tachikawa AFB in Japan. I felt that I needed to do something for my fellow brothers in arms, so I was stationed at the Stars and Stripes
villa in Saigon, but my job was mostly at Tan Son Nhut AFB.
My question is, am I qualified to join your organization. I can't remember many names of friends, as over the years I have put Vietnam out of my mind as
much as possible. I was very young and it was a very scarey time in my life, especially as a youngster just out of school. Over the years I have tried to locate members of the Stars & Stripes news teams that
were assigned there but with no success , hard to remember their names after so many years.
Thank You for your time and I will be awaiting your response.

Obtaining a Copy of Your Military Records
The National Personnel Records Center, Military Personnel Records (NPRC-MPR), in St. Louis, MO, is the repository of millions of military personnel, health, and medical records of discharged and deceased veterans of all services during the 20th century. NPRC (MPR) also stores medical treatment records of retirees from all services, as well as records for dependent and other persons treated at naval medical facilities. Copies of most military and medical records on file at NPRC (MPR), including the DD Form 214, Report of Separation (or equivalent), can be made available upon request.
Veterans and next-of-kin of deceased veterans have the same rights to full access to the record. Next-of-kin are the unremarried widow or widower, son or daughter, father or mother, brother or sister of the deceased veteran. Authorized third party requesters, e.g., lawyers, doctors, historians, etc., may submit requests for information from individual records with the veteran's (or next of kin's, for deceased veterans) signed and dated authorization. If you use a signed authorization, it should include exactly what you are authorizing to be released to the third party. Authorizations are valid one year from date of signature.
The general public can also request some parts of a veteran's military record without the authorization of the veteran or next of kin. The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Privacy Act provide balance between the right of the public to obtain information from military service records and the right of the former military service member to protect his/her privacy. In general, information available from military service records which can be released without violation of the Privacy Act are: Name, Service Number (not Social Security Number), Rank, Dates of Service, Awards and Decorations, and Place of Entrance and Separation. If the veteran is deceased, the Place of Birth, Date of Death, Geographical Location of Death, and Place of Burial can also be released.
Access to military personnel and medical records on file at the National Personnel Records Center, may also be gained pursuant "to the order of a court of competent jurisdiction." Subpoenas qualify as orders of a court of competent jurisdiction only if they have been signed by a judge. To be valid, court orders must also be signed by a judge. Authority for these requirements is 5 U.S.C. 552a(b) (11), as interpreted by Doe vs. DiGenova, 779 F. 2d 74 (D.C. Cir. 1985), and Stiles vs. Atlanta Gas and Light Company, 453 F. Supp. 798 (N.D. Ga.1978).
The records stored at the National Personnel Records Center cover military personnel who were discharged on or after the below - listed dates:
Air Force Officers and Enlisted -- September 25, 1947
Army Officers separated July 1, 1917
Army Enlisted separated November 1, 1912
Navy Officers separated January 1, 1903
Navy Enlisted separated January 1, 1886
Marine Corps Officers and Enlisted separated January 1, 1905
Coast Guard Officers and Enlisted separated January 1, 1898
Military personnel records for individuals separated before these dates are on file at the National Archives and Records Administration, Old Military and Civil Records Branch (NWCTB), Washington, DC 20408.
Email:
Federal law [5 USC 552a(b)] requires that all requests for records and information be submitted in writing. The easiest way to do this is by using Standard Form (SF) 180, Request Pertaining to Military Records.
Requesting Copies of Military Records (Including DD Form 214/215): Requests must contain enough information to identify the record among the more than 70 million on file at the National Personnel Records Center. The Center needs certain basic information in order to locate military service records. This information includes the veteran's complete name used while in service, service number or social security number, branch of service, and dates of service. Date and place of birth may also be helpful, especially if the service number is not known. If the request pertains to a record that may have been involved in the 1973 fire, also include place of discharge, last unit of assignment, and place of entry into the service, if known.
The SF 180, although not mandatory, is the recommended method to send a request for military service information. This form captures all the necessary information to locate a record. Provide as
much information on the form as possible and send copies of any service documents that you may have. Requests may also be submitted as a letter, containing the basic information listed above. Mail the
completed SF 180, or the signed written request to:
The National Personnel Records Center (Military Personnel Records)
9700 Page Avenue
St. Louis, MO 63132-5100
Requesting Copies of Military Medical
Records:
Clinical and medical treatment records are filed at the National Personnel Records Center by the name of the facility which last had responsibility for the records. Therefore, in order to request information from
medical records, you must provide the following:
NAME OF THE LAST FACILITY WHICH HAD RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE TREATMENT RECORD. Usually this is the last facility at which treatment was provided.
The YEAR and the TYPE OF TREATMENT (inpatient, outpatient, dental, mental health, etc.) If you need copies of specific records, please be sure to state the type of illness, injury, or treatment involved.
The patient's FULL NAME used during treatment.
The patient's SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER and STATUS during treatment [military, retiree, dependent of military, federal employee, dependent, or other
(specify)].
BRANCH OF SERVICE and SPONSOR'S SERVICE NUMBER or SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER (if the former patient is/was a dependent). You should provide as much information as possible.
It may not be possible to locate a record if important identifying information is missing.
For medical records of separated/retired military personnel and NAVY/Marine Corps dependents, send your request to:
National Personnel Records Center
Military Personnel Records 9700 Page Avenue
St.
Louis, MO 63132-5100.
For medical records of Air Force, Coast Guard, or Army Dependents, send requests to:
National Personnel Records Center
Civilian Personnel Records
111 Winnebago Street
St.
Louis, MO 63118-4126.
Veterans who plan to file a claim for medical benefits with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) do not need to request a copy of their military health record from the National Personnel Records Center. When
you file a VA claim, the Department of Veterans Affairs will request the record automatically, as part of the claims process. Generally there is no charge for military personnel and health record information provided to
veterans, next-of-kin and authorized representatives. If your request involves a service fee, you will be notified as soon as that determination is made.
Response time varies dependent upon the complexity of
your request, the availability of records, and the workload of the National Personnel Records Center.
Over the past several years, the Center has experienced severe personnel and budget cuts. While the
center strives to complete most record requests within 90 days, it is not unusual for the Center to be backlogged for 180 days, or more. Please do not send a follow-up request before 90 days have elapsed as it may
cause further delays.

Comments: Well, again we had a great gathering of brothers and sisters down in San Antonio, TX.
With the presence of Lt. Norris, it felt like we had put together the full puzzle. It was
unfortunate that Mike Thornton was not able to be there. I'm not sure if San Antonio was ready for both of them.
First off, I want to say "Thanks" to the Admin staff. I don't think we could expect any
more than they have done. It was a wonderful event and I am sure that everyone there would confirm.
Second: My wife and I would like to say "Thank you very much" to all those that we had
contact with. An absolute great assembly of people.
Little sister Jones, held us together as expected. Charles, thank you again for your efforts. You two are the best.
And of
course our great appreciation goes out to Bob Laymon. His love of the game and his relentless desire to keep this group entertained and bonded is so very much obvious. Thanks Bob.
I don't
think I have ever met a man more gracious and delightful to be around, than Kiet. He stold our hearts. I am so glad that he was able to be there with Lt. Norris. What an amazing twosome they
made.
I am sure that everyone there agrees with us that our presence on the River Walk was welcomed by so many spectators. And receiving a salute from some of our older warriors was heart gripping.
I even got to return a salute to a young lady whose father appeared to be in the military. Wow, what an event.
Nuff said. Really looking forward to the next event.
Thanks again, and
here's wishing everyone one of our brothers and sisters of yester-year as well as the present a great upcoming Veterans Day.

Release No. 08-12-10
Aug. 30, 2010
Regulation provides easier path for Vietnam veterans
WASHINGTON (AFRNS) - Veterans exposed to herbicides while serving in Vietnam and other areas will have an easier path to access quality health care and qualify for disability compensation under a final regulation that will be published Aug. 31 in the Federal Register by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The new rule expands the list of health problems VA will presume to be related to Agent Orange and other herbicide exposures to add two new conditions and expand one existing category of conditions.
"Last October, based on the requirements of the Agent Orange Act of 1991 and the Institute of Medicine's 2008 Update on Agent Orange, I determined that the evidence provided was sufficient to award presumptions of service connection for these three additional diseases," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki. "It was the right decision, and the president and I are proud to finally provide this group of veterans the care and benefits they have long deserved."
The final regulation follows Secretary Shinseki's determination to expand the list of conditions for which service connection for Vietnam veterans is presumed. VA is adding Parkinson's disease and Ischemic heart disease and expanding Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia to include all chronic B cell leukemias, such as hairy cell leukemia. In practical terms, veterans who served in Vietnam during the war and who have a "presumed" illness do not have to prove an association between their medical problems and their military service.
By helping veterans overcome evidentiary requirements that might otherwise present significant challenges, this "presumption" simplifies and speeds up the application process and ensure that Veterans receive the benefits they deserve. The secretary's decision to add these presumptives is based on the latest evidence provided in a 2008 independent study by the Institute of Medicine concerning health problems caused by herbicides like Agent Orange.
Veterans who served in Vietnam anytime during the period beginning January 9, 1962, and ending on May 7, 1975, are presumed to have been exposed to herbicides. More than 150,000 veterans are expected to submit Agent Orange claims in the next 12 to 18 months, many of whom are potentially eligible for retroactive disability payments based on past claims. Additionally, VA will review approximately 90,000 previously denied claims by Vietnam veterans for service connection for these conditions. All those awarded service-connection who are not currently eligible for enrollment into the VA healthcare system will become eligible.
This historic regulation is subject to provisions of the Congressional Review Act that require a 60-day Congressional review period before implementation. After the review period, VA can begin paying benefits for new claims and may award benefits retroactively for earlier periods.
For new claims, VA may pay benefits retroactive to the effective date of the regulation or to one year before the date VA receives the application, whichever is later. For pending claims and claims that were previously denied, VA may pay benefits retroactive to the date it received the claim.
VA encourages Vietnam veterans with these three diseases to submit their applications for access to VA health care and compensation now so the agency can begin development of their claims. Individuals can go to a website at: http://www.vba.va.gov/bln/21/AO/claimherbicide.htm to get an understanding of how to file a claim for presumptive conditions related to herbicide exposure, as well as what evidence is needed by VA to make a decision about disability compensation or survivor's benefits.
Additional information about Agent Orange and VA's services for veterans exposed to the chemical is available at: http://www.publichealth.va.gov/exposures/agentorange The regulation is available on the Office of the Federal Register. (Courtesy of VA)

Diabetes Top Claim
Exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam and subsequent contraction of Type II Diabetes is now the most prevalent disability claim for all Vietnam veterans. Recent data indicates that around 270,000 Vietnam veterans are
receiving disability compensation for Diabetes. That is over one quarter of the roughly one million veterans receiving disability payments.
The VA is set to begin payments to many more veterans due to the
three newly approved Agent Orange exposure connected conditions of Parkinson’s Disease, Ischemic Heart Disease and B-Cell Leukemias.
Payments will start after the 60-day mandatory hold on VA regulations expires on
October 30.

The American Legion wins long fight on behalf of Gold Star parents
Congress awards state veterans home privileges to all parents of fallen warriors.
WASHINGTON (Sept. 21, 2010) – After a decades - long campaign waged by The American Legion and sympathetic advocates, the U.S. Senate last night cleared legislation that will grant state veterans home care privileges to all Gold Star mothers and fathers; parents who have lost sons or daughters during military service. Heretofore, since the post-Civil War era, only parents who had sacrificed all of their children in service were eligible for veterans’ home residency. The passage by unanimous voice vote followed overwhelming passage of similar legislation at the end of June.
“To lose one’s child to the service of our country is the ultimate sacrifice a parent can make,” said Tim Tetz, Director of The American Legion’s Legislative Division. “We owe them much more than a debt of gratitude. It is heartening to see that Congress is now making an honorable payment on that debt.”
Tetz, formerly the Executive Director of the Nevada Office of Veterans Services, was among those who urged Senator John Ensign (R-Nev.) to introduce enabling legislation into the Senate making that state one of the prime driving forces behind the move to open veterans’ home care to more Gold Star parents. Tetz credited Ensign as being “hugely supportive” of the Senate measure. Nevada’s Gary Bermeosolo, Legislative Chairman of the National Association of State Veterans Homes, also offered his thanks by saying “(we) appreciate the efforts of Senator Ensign and Congressman William “Mac” Thornberry of Texas (who introduced the House bill in late January) to correct the inequity created by the onerous definition requiring Gold Star Parents to have lost “all” of their children to wartime service in order to be considered for admission to a state veterans home. We prayed that they would be successful with their efforts.”
The American Legion’s effort to honor all Gold Star parents with much deserved care goes back many years. It was a special project of Paul Morin, who served as the Legion’s National Commander in 2006-2007 and was superintendent of a veterans home in his native Massachusetts. “The contribution of Commander Morin and fellow American Legion movers and shakers in correcting this inequity cannot be overstated,” concluded Mr. Tetz.
The House and Senate bills will now be presented to a joint conference committee for reconciliation of any differences with the final version to be forwarded President Obama for his signature.

January to April.
My friend's name is Brian Campbell and he was with the 33rd Air Base Squadron.
I am working with a VA Advocate, and he suggested that Brian join your association and ask for help from the

Would it be possible for you to post a notice on your web site asking for help for Brian?

Comments: Tan Son Nhut Association "Life Member," Lt/Col (Ret) Ruth Kay Sidisin, 80, died Sunday, October 3, 2010, at Covenant Place in Sumter, SC. She was born November 21, 1929, in Bayonne, New
Jersey, to Charles Andrew and Shirley Berkman Sidisin.
She completed with honors a two-year pre-nursing program at Douglass College, a division of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and then transferred
to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. After two years on staff at Johns Hopkins, she entered the United States Air Force. Her tours of
duty took her to Viet Nam— where she served in a combat zone, Japan, Michigan, Turkey, Texas, and Shaw Air Force, South Carolina. She retired from the Air Force at Shaw Air Force Base in 1980 with 25 years
distinguished service. Among the many medals she earned were the AF Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross.
Lt/Col Sidisin made Sumter her
home in retirement. Her activities in the Sumter community included singing in the Shaw AFB Skylarks and Base Catholic Choirs, the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), The Retired Officers’ Association,
the American Red Cross, Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Sumter Little Theater, The Air Force Association, and the Sumter-Shaw Community Concert Association (SSCCA). She held memberships in the Viet Nam Veterans’
Association, the Society of Air Force Nurses, and a lifetime membership in both the American Legion and the Tan Son Nhut Association.
Even in retirement improving medical care remained a commitment; she donated
generously to ensure the best of care at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. She contributed in bringing Covenant Place to Sumter and she anonymously subsidized the income of young nurses and nursing assistants in
training. She has also contributed to the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing each year.
She often said her years in Viet Nam were the most rewarding as far as using her own nursing skills. There
one was forced to react immediately to the emergency at hand without having to worry about documentation. You just did what needed to be done at the moment. Troops affectionately referred to her as
“Major Mom.”
She made it a habit to sit outside her quarters in the evenings and wave to members of the 377th Security Police Squadron in Tan Son Nhut (TSN) who were on their way to patrol the base’s perimeter.
This earned her the title of “The Waving Nurse.” After she returned to the States, the waving tradition continued among the nurses stationed at TSN. In 2009 the Security Policemen were meeting
for their reunion and several mentioned that they would like to find out what had happened to that nurse. With the help of Dee Reiter in Sumter, who had been stationed in Viet Nam with Ruth, they located “The Waving
Nurse” and several came to visit her in assisted living at Covenant Place in Sumter. For her 80th birthday in 2009 they showered her with hundreds of cards and well wishes. A few weeks later their
representatives came to Sumter and officially inducted her as the first honorary member of the Viet Nam Security Police Association Auxiliary.
Her nephew, Sanford Greenfield of Bayonne, NJ, as well as four special friends
survive Lt/Col Sidisin: Mary Spear of Saginaw, MI, and Robert and Esther Jaxtheimer and Virginia Ray of Sumter. She was a loving and generous aunt to their children and grandchildren for many years.
Her parents and a brother, Charles Merrill Sidisin, preceded her in death.
Memorials may be made to the Anna D. Wolfe Scholarship Fund, Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, 525 North Wolfe Street,
Baltimore, MD 21205-2110.
Father Robert Cannon will conduct a funeral mass at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 216 East Liberty St., Sumter, SC, at 2 p.m., Friday, October 8. Interment will follow at Evergreen
Memorial Cemetery.

I was a Vietnamese civilian working for the US Air Force from 1968 thru 1972 on Tan Son Nhut Air
Base, 2 years with the 377th Combat Support Group, and two years with the 377th Services Squadron.
I was a young girl then and had so many fond memories of the Base, the offices where I worked, all the GI’s friends I made,
whom I wish somehow I could find and keep in touch.
I immigrated to the US in 1975 when South Vietnam fell in the hands of the North Vietnamese government but I always remember TSN Air base and all the memories.
I still have a couple of photographs taken on the base that I’m willing to share with your web site, and hope to see other photographs from other people who were there. When I came back to visit Viet Nam later,
the base was no longer the same, everything was torn down and became cities and neighborhoods.
I hope thru your web site, I can find some old friends or co-workers during those years.
Thank you for creating
such a wonderful web site.

Dear Friends:
Below is a wonderful video by the Pentagon Channel and it provides you with a behind-the-scenes look at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Collection. I invite you to take a look when you have the time. I am sure you will be as touched by it as I was.
The phenomenon of leaving items at The Wall is believed to have begun in 1982 when
someone placed a Purple Heart in the concrete being poured during the Memorial's initial construction. Since that time, the public has continued to leave objects at The Wall and not just the traditional items left at other
war memorials such as flowers and flags. Military objects that are customarily handed down from generation to generation such as medals, uniforms and dog tags have been placed at the Memorial, as well as teddy bears,
poems, pictures, birthday cards, cigarettes and even a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
The National Park Service collects these items every night. The objects, which now number more than 120,000, are stored at
the Museum Resource Center in Landover, Maryland. These objects will be on display in a new facility being built by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. To learn more about the center, please visit:
http://www.buildthecenter.org

Jan C. Scruggs

I am Rawland E. Seaman , and was SP5 and worked in the Mess Hall at Camp Hustler, 110th Transportation Avn (Depot,) 34th group out of Saigon
area.
I am looking for Sgt. James Brent who was the Mess Sgt when I was there, as well as Antonio Muio, who returned after his ETS to work in the Civilian sector. I am also seeking information on Gilbert
Villapondo, and Terry Stalker. Terry had been Medevaced out of Vietnam and none of us were able to find out information on his health.
After all these years I still wonder what became of all these men and others
I served with.
I remember that Warrant Officer Shodice was the Mess/Supply/Motor Officer while I was there.
I also remember that when I arrived, Major Hall was the Commanding Officer and after his promotion to
LTC, the XO took over but I only remember one of the transfers from 1st infantry. I also remember "Deros" with man we called "Sach" and held his carton of milk while he walked on his hands to the 3/4 ton truck that took
us to Long Binh area to process out of country.
I do remember coming across SSgt Salzedo when I returned to Vietnam for my second tour and he was working at the bachelor enlisted quarters not far from where my company
Headquarters CMAV was located. I also remember visiting the 110th and remember Sgt. Brent returned after re-enlisting and was again with the 110th.
If there are any old members of 110th that can give me any
information on those I have listed, I would be very thankful.
I live in Enid, Oklahoma.
Best of Regards,
R. E. Seaman

Comments: Our annual family get together - the TSNA Reunion - is being held in San Antonio, Texas. You are invited to join the family on October 7-10, 2010.
Ladies, talk to your men and please come with them to the reunion. The hospitality room is our "big front porch" and we enjoy listening to them as they meet and greet old friends and make new friends.
What is that old saying, "A stranger is simply a friend that we haven't met yet." Look at their faces as they converse with one another. They appear to become younger and their faces take on a glow such as
all young men have when they are with their "Buds". I love to talk to them and listen to them. Oh, by the way, I am a hugger. If you see the shortest woman in the room and she walks toward you,
that will be me and I have unlimited hugs for the sisters as well as the brothers.
As to dress - make the choice your own. At all the reunions that we have been to, we have dressed casual, Sunday and
our Best. You can be comfortable in your own choice.
This year is a most special year! We have as our guests at the banquet Lt. Thomas R. Norris USNR (Ret.), who is a Medal of Honor Recipient.
Also, a guest, Nguyen Van Kiet, PO3, RVN Navy who is a U.S. Navy Cross Recipient. Darrel D. Whitcomb, Col. USAFR (Ret.), a Silver Star Recipient, as well as Author of "The Rescue of Bat 21" and
lecturer will be attending. Also, Lt. Mike Thornton, Medal of Honor Recipient and a member of TSNA and guest speaker in 2009, will be attending. We are being blessed with these wonderful Brothers and
we are so excited about hearing and seeing them in person.
So, ladies, please, talk to your guys. Pack your suitcases and come with them to share some quality time with the rest of the TSNA family.
We are excited about meeting you. We talk, laugh and sometimes cry. We share, communicate and love our family. We are like a family quilt. Come and add your personal
patch to it.
I am so looking forward to seeing all my friends and to make new ones. Love and peace to you!

Comments: A sad note ...
TSNA used her services a few years ago, Linda Irvine was there and some of you may remember her.
Linda died July 5, 2010 from complications of the cancer she
had been fighting.
The Reunion Brat organization is continuing. I have worked before with Linda's administrative assistants, they are as capable as Linda was.
Linda Irvine is owner and operator of THE
REUNION BRAT. Her father served 26 years in the Air Force and Linda was raised throughout the United States and Europe including, Warren Robbins AFB, Lowry AFB, Hamilton AFB and Ramstein AFB.
She has a BS from Washington State University in Business Management and Marketing. Linda is presently a member of VFW Post 7952 Auxiliary, Supporter of The Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American
Veterans, Vietnam Veterans Association, various Veterans Memorial Funds, committee member of The American Overseas Schools Historical Society, and founder and chairperson of Zweibrücken Alumni Association.
“I wouldn’t
give growing up in the military for anything” says Linda. “The hard part was turning 18, having my ID card taken away and told I'm now a civilian. I didn't want to be a civilian. The military was the
only life I knew. Simple things like not being able to go in the commissary, after bagging groceries there for 3 years, was real tough. I love my work. It's a way of me being able to connect to that
part of my life again. I feel like I'm home when I get together with veterans.”

Comments: As I recall, there was a bombing at a Saigon movie theatre in early 1964. The QC and U.S. MP were shot by two VC's who then tossed a satchel charge explosive device into the theatre lobby.
There were some Navy troops (Navy Hospital, Saigon) and AFOSI agents in the theatre who injured in the explosion. I recall that it was written up in the "Observer newspaper."
I can not give you
the exact date, but, I'm recalling maybe January 1964. I left TSN Airport in late April.
Please let me know if you can find anything on it in your files.
Good luck and thanks in advance for looking into this

New Gravesite Veteran Medallions:
Week of July 12, 2010
The Department of Veterans Affairs is offering bronze medallions to attach to existing, privately purchased headstones or markers, signifying a deceased's status as a veteran. The new item can be furnished instead of
a traditional government headstone or marker for veterans whose death occurred on or after Nov. 1, 1990 and whose grave in a private cemetery is marked with a privately purchased headstone or marker. Next of kin
will receive the medallion along with a kit.
For more information on VA-furnished headstones, markers and medallions, visit the VA website. Instructions on how to apply for a medallion are on the VA website at
http://www.cem.va.gov/hm_hm.asp
Information on VA burial benefits can be obtained from national cemetery offices, from the VA website at http://www.cem.va.gov or by calling VA regional offices toll-free at
1-800-827-1000.
Thanks,
George Plunkett

WASHINGTON – Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced a critical step forward in providing an easier process for Veterans seeking health care and disability compensation for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), with the publication of a final regulation in the Federal Register.
“This nation has a solemn obligation to the men and women who have honorably served this country and suffer from the often devastating emotional wounds of war,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki. “This final regulation goes a long way to ensure that Veterans receive the benefits and services they need.”
By publishing a final regulation in the Federal Register to simplify the process for a Veteran to claim service connection for PTSD, VA reduces the evidence needed if the trauma claimed by a Veteran is related to fear of hostile military or terrorist activity and is consistent with the places, types, and circumstances of the Veteran’s service.
This science-based regulation relies on evidence that concluded that a Veteran’s deployment to a war zone is linked to an increased risk of PTSD.
Under the new rule, VA would not require corroboration of a stressor related to fear of hostile military or terrorist activity if a VA doctor confirms that the stressful experience recalled by a Veteran adequately supports a diagnosis of PTSD and the Veteran's symptoms are related to the claimed stressor.
Previously, claims adjudicators were required to corroborate that a non-combat Veteran actually experienced a stressor related to hostile military activity. This final rule simplifies the development that is required for these cases.
VA expects this rulemaking to decrease the time it takes VA to decide access to care and claims falling under the revised criteria. More than 400,000 Veterans currently receiving compensation benefits are service connected for PTSD. Combined with VA’s shorter claims form, VA’s new streamlined, science-based regulation allows for faster and more accurate decisions that also expedite access to medical care and other benefits for Veterans.
PTSD is a medically recognized anxiety disorder that can develop from seeing or experiencing an event that involves actual or threatened death or serious injury to which a person responds with intense fear, helplessness or horror, and is not uncommon among war Veterans.
Disability compensation is a tax-free benefit paid to a Veteran for disabilities that are a result of -- or made worse by -- injuries or diseases associated with active service.
For additional information, go to www.va.gov or call VA’s toll free benefits number at 1-800-827-1000.

One of the key sites we will be visiting during our TSNA Reunion bus windshield-tour of Lackland AFB on Friday, 8 October is the USAF Security Forces Museum. I’ve coordinated with the USAFSF museum
director/curator & Foundation President for TSNA Guests to visit their facility for a 30 minutes tour {on the hour & half-hour} for the number of buses we have on the reunion base windshield-tour. The Foundation wants
to support our TSNA visit, greet our visitors, and maybe offer refreshments … midway during our base bus tour(s).

privileged to ride past him for my third time while participating in Rolling Thunder. He has done this for 8 years now. I rendered a salute to him as best I could as many other riders did. My wife
rode with me this year and took his picture (attached) as we passed, but the video shows close-up what we couldn’t see riding by.
His truly is a selfless act of reverence and respect for all veterans, past and present.

Comments: The video of the Marine saluting was a must see. Brings back a few memories.
From July 1964 to July 1965 we had no salute areas on Tan Son Nhut Air Base. I do not
know if this contined on after I left.
Many times I had a new officer on base say, "Don’t you salute airman" and I must of have been one of the first to tell him we were in a no salute zone.
I do not know if it was because
of snipers or the pure volume of people he would have to salute in certain areas.
We also wore our rank and the stripes were still white. This made for a great target.
Another thing I was thinking today
as I drank a glass of milk today. We never had milk there the whole year I was there. All milk was powdered and tasted like chalk.
Also there were no eggs. All eggs were scrambled and
were powered.
Just a couple things I remembered today. Funny how many days, as you get older, brings back so many memories.

Rolling Thunder,
300,000 vets on motorcycles from across the USA paraded in D.C. the Sunday before Memorial Day, while a solitary, saluting Marine greeted them out on Constitution Avenue ... the Marine
stood at salute for 3 straight hours, while the parade of roaring bikes kept on coming ... it is held in remembrance of those who've fallen in the military ... the event (or the group) is called Rolling Thunder
... the camera is on the Marine a lot ... watch his struggles with his emotions, and his struggles with holding that salute ... the way he salutes is very touching ... his head lowered, his eyes
down, in reverence for the fallen ... and as I watched him, I could feel it too ... it got to be overwhelming for him ... and the tears started flowing ... watch what he says when he finally
breaks, but keeps right on holding that salute ...

The new Vietnam magazine August 2010 issue is out, and it has an article on page 30 by John
Burnam, a former dog handler, entitled, "Dogging It." It is a very brief explanation of the job dogs did for all services in Vietnam. It is accompanied by photographs. There is only one on page
36 of two veterinarians treating a wounded German Shepherd Dog at Tan Son Nhut. They are Army vets of the 44th Medical Brigade described as captains assigned to the 936th Veterinary Detachment War Dog Hospital
in 1968. The wounded dog is described as being scout dog, Lux.
There is nothing new that we do not already know, but it's great to see the dogs remembered in a national magazine. Any day they
get credit for having served too, is a good day.

Comments: The company I retired from sponsors a "retiree club" which meets quarterly. Our luncheon meeting is always opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.
I carried a small American Flag
with me to Tan Son Nhut in 1967 and have kept it through the years.
Today I asked the president of our club to allow me to lead the group in reciting the pledge since Monday, June 14th is Flag Day. Prior to the
pledge, I told the group of several hundred folks that my flag was special to me and was with me at Tan Son Nhut Air Base just outside of Saigon during my tour of duty there.
Usually we turn and face the large American Flag
that is always in the meeting room. Today I asked everyone to focus their attention to my flag from Tan Son Nhut as I lead the pledge.
A special moment for a special flag from a special place.
Thanks.

This Memorial Day weekend, Westerville, Ohio, just outside Columbus, hosted a "Field of Heroes" and the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall.
The
"Field of Heroes" was comprised of 2,000 8' American Flags. Each flag was purchased and was dedicated to an individual by family members or friends. Visitors could walk among them and read the tags on
each.
The sight of this display at sunset with so many flags blowing in the wind was incredible.
Just beyond the flags was the "Traveling Wall". It is a one half size replica of the Memorial in Washington
DC. Although it is smaller, it carries the same impact.
Family members and veterans pay silent tribute to those whose names appear. "Rubbings", imprints of names, are taken by individuals by
someone who was close to them.
Gifts, flowers, flags, photos, etc. are left at the base to honor certain individuals.
,br>Many a tear is shed in the company of those who understand.
Other visitors come to view
the memorial and are in awe of the sheer number of names of the men and women who gave their all in service to our country. (58,262)

Fellow Reunion Attendees:
This year we are offering our attendees the opportunity to pick and choose what reunion events they want to attend. We expect many members and guests living in the greater San Antonio area to do so.
A system of stickers of various colors and shapes that are applied to name tags will maintain positive control over those who decide to attend less than all events.
To accomplish this and ensure that all those who attend pay their fair share, we will need to man the reception desk whenever the hospitality suite is open. I envision 2 hour shifts at the desk.
To volunteer - please email me your name.

Comments: Looks like a fairly modern city with dare-devils, and no traffic laws!
This film was "lost" for many years. It was the first 35mm film ever. It was taken by camera mounted
on the front of a cable car. The amount of automobiles is staggering for 1906. Absolutely amazing! The clock tower at the end of Market Street at the Embarcadero Wharf is still there.
Great historical film worth watching. (The Original Disneyland)
This film was originally thought to be from 1905 until David Kiehn with the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum figured out exactly when it was shot.
From New York trade papers announcing the film showing to the wet streets from recent heavy rainfall and shadows indicating time of year and actual weather and conditions on historical record, even when the cars
were registered (he even knows who owned them and when the plates were issued!) .. It was filmed only four days before the quake and shipped by train to NY for processing. Amazing but true!

spent a few years at Tan Son Nhut and his family (my grandma, my mother and my aunt) accompanied him; that was when Indochina (= Viet Nam) was still a french colony in the 1950s.
My mother would be very interested if you
have any maps or photographs of the place at the very beginning of the US period there (as there were many changes afterwards, i.e. we heard that many houses had to be destroyed to build new grounds etc).
Best Regards,

Comments: Welcome Home! I am looking for the two members of the 716th MP BN., stationed at the guard shack at the entrance of Old Tent City "B" the morning of 1 February 1968 around 0800hrs., I
think.
There was an ambush of a duce and a half carrying about 15-unarmed members of the 110th TC on their way to the depot. It happened about a 100 - 200 yards outside side the gate and only
one PFC on the back or on the truck had an M-14 to take care of the VC ambush.
I would like to meet the two MP's or anyone else who witnessed the incident even thought it was 42-years ago.
Thanks and again

Comments: I was in the Air force in 1964 and worked on C-130 aircraft. I was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, Naha Air Base in Okinawa and CCK Air Base in Formosa. From these
bases, I went TDY to Viet Nam. I went TDY to Tan Son Nhut Air Base and to Na Trang. While at Na Trang, we worked around the C-123’s that sprayed agent orange.
We knew nothing about Agent
Orange then, only standing puddles near the aircraft smelled like pesticide. You could walk around these puddles, jump over them or wade through them. My boots got soaked.
I turned in an agent
orange claim and it was rejected by the VA Regional Office in Waco, Texas.
They say their records do not show anything about my being in Viet Nam.
The only thing I can think of I was in Viet Nam TDY - not PCS.
My DD-214 says Viet Nam and on it are records of medals I received while in Viet Nam. My DD-214 and military record does not show specific dates of my being in Viet Nam.
I have Diabetes, high blood
pressure, etc … and do not know how bad this stuff is going to get. I am not asking for a free ride but, if I have it coming, I need some help.
Can you please help me?

Comments: Hello, I am on the internet researching Tan Son Nhut Air Base Vietnam and came across your article entitled "Chronology of VC/NVA Attacks."
I was TDY to Tan Son Nhut in 1965, and left in Sep
1965.
I have some notes about an attack in 1965 that I've given to the VA concerning a claim. They say there was no attack at Tan Son Nhut, but your information confirms there was.
I was on a detail to
the Saigon airport one day and saw General Westmoreland. The next day, according to my notes, there was an attack and some people died.
Yes, I would like a copy of the Pacific Stars and Stripes headlines
dated: June 18, 1965, "Hit during Safety Lecture, 46 Americans Injured In Airport Blast."
According to the VA, the VA stressor verification information site, online, shows that there were three attacks in 1965 on
Air Force bases in Vietnam, ie, DaNang on July 1, 1965, one attack at Nha Trang on August 2, 1965 and one attack at Bien Hoa on August 23, 1965, and nothing at Tan Son Nhut.
In the early days Stars and Stripes were
reporting a couple of people being killed, but I saw many, many, many dead bodies at the mortuary each day. Very surprising in those days. If you have any information along these lines I would also
appreciate that also.
Thank You for your service!

I am proud to say that they were processed at my former duty station Camp Alpha. There seems to be a discrepancy among many politicians which date is appropriate to designate as Vietnam Veterans Day to
commemorate the end of American involvement. Those troops who came home 37 years ago today know that March 29 marked the end.

Fellow TSN Veterans,
29 March 1973 was the last day active duty American military personnel served in the Republic of Vietnam.
The 377th Air Base Wing commander, Col David "Digger" Odell was scheduled to be the last US military person to board the final C-141 flight from Tan Son Nhut AB, ... RVN on 29 March 1973.
Col Odell deferred the
honor to MSG Max Beilke, US Army [who was ironically killed in the Pentagon 9/11 attack].
In 2007, the Tan Son Nhut Association was pleased to coordinate donation of the last US flag to fly over Tan Son Nhut AB, to the National Museum of the United States Air Force.

Senate sets Vietnam vets day
Progress staff reports Jacksonville Daily Progress
WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Senator Richard Burr (R-NC), ranking member of the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs, announced that a resolution he introduced encouraging communities across the nation to
establish Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day was passed unanimously by the United States Senate.
The resolution designates March 30, 2010, as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day, to honor the return home of our armed service members after serving in Vietnam.
Burr said the passage of the resolution will give Vietnam veterans the recognition that is long overdue.
“There’s no question that our troops served our country bravely and faithfully during the Vietnam War, and these veterans deserve our recognition and gratitude,” Burr said.
“Tragically, when these service members returned home, they were caught in the crossfire of public debate about our nations involvement in the Vietnam War. As a result, these brave men and women never received
the welcome home and gratitude they fully deserved.”
The U.S. Armed Forces began serving in an advisory role to the South Vietnamese in 1961, and in 1965, ground combat troops were sent into Vietnam.
After many years of combat, all U.S. troops were withdrawn from Vietnam on March 30, 1973, under the terms of the Treaty of Paris.
Therefore, March 30, 2010, is an appropriate day to establish Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.
More than 58,000 members of the United States Armed Forces lost their lives and more than 300,000 were wounded in Vietnam.

Comments: Hello, my name is Jorge Lopez and I served at 1st Aviation Brigade's Hq at Tan Son Hnut during 1966 - 1967.
I am trying to get some information on the crash of a Skyraider flown by
the Vietnamese Air Force. I believe this happened either in January or February of 1967.
There was a flight of 4 Skyraiders that were putting on a show for the Vietnamese Boy Scouts who were watching the air
show from the same field where Bob Hope had given his 1966 Christmas show. The planes were approaching from the east in a line placing them one behind the other.
As they approached the viewing field they
began a maneuver where each plane rolled over to fly upside down. Then the planes began to right themselves beginning with first plane and followed by the rest.
The last plane in the formation righted himself
and then attempted to pull a loop backward only to stall the plane. He tried to pull up but hit a concrete formation where he lost a wing and then crossed the street where he began to tumble over the houses and finally
crashing about a block from where he hit the first obstacle. As he fell he just missed the 1st Aviation HQ building and the water tower that stood just north of the HQ building.
I saw the whole event and was the
first on the scene.
What I would like to know from you is if there is any documentation of the event and where I could find such a resource.
If you can help I would be greatly appreciative.
Thanks,
Jorge Lopez

Comments: Hello! I am the widow of an air police named L. E. Swaim, who was stationed at Davis-Monthan with Steve Porovich.
It's been a lot of years since Steve died in Viet Nam, and I
suppose your resources probably won't help, but it won't hurt to ask.
I need to find ANYONE who knows the history of Sgt. Porovich's Air Force service. I see that his widow was residing in Tucson when he died,
but I don't find any trace of her at this point.
Sgt. Porovich was the NCOIC of a group of 13 Air Policemen (including my husband) who went to Korea in 1951 from Davis-Monthan. The group was taken POW after
Sgt. Porovich was shot when a North Korean army contingent attacked them at night. He was presumed dead by the other 12 Air Policemen, who were quickly marched away and eventually reached a POW camp across the
Yalu. My husband was one of a handful of prisoners who escaped the camp in June 1952. He was subjected to a fiercely hostile debriefing at Travis AFB upon his return, and warned that he was never to
mention to anyone as long as he lived that he had been either in Korea or a POW camp. They told him that they would have means of knowing if he ever told anyone, and he would be subject to general court martial.
He honored that charge until 1995, when he told me shortly after we married. (We had been engaged for a short period before he went to Korea, and reconnected after 43 years.) And he learned later
that the only one of his Air Police buddies who escaped with him and that he could find 48 years afterward was obviously warned not to talk, and refused to discuss it with him -- even getting so upset that his wife grabbed
the phone and blasted my husband and hung up.
The reason I'm engaged in research at this point is that I recently discovered that Sgt. Porovich obviously survived being shot in Korea (after having survived the Bataan
Death March in WWII), and in fact remained an Air Policeman and died of a heart attack on his base in Viet Nam. So I'm very, very interested in finding out what information anyone might have about the "rest of the story."
Some websites where it seems I might succeed in making contact with someone involved don't permit non-members to post messages; and I don't qualify to become a member. Snooping around for such
information 58 years after the fact is perhaps foolhardy (that's a little bit like idiotic), but I won't be able to do it any sooner!
Other Air Policemen who were among those 13 from Davis-Monthan were A/3C Buchanan (who died in
POW camp), John F. Yoder, Wogan, and Craig. Yoder and Craig were the only ones from the group who wound up in the same hooch as my husband. Craig chose not to risk escaping with the group and
remained in the POW camp. Wogan and the other 8 were taken POW with them, crossed the Yalu in the same pair of boats, and proceeded in the march to the POW camp; but they apparently went to different hooches,
and my husband never heard of any of them again. He was stationed at Davis-Monthan for a good while after returning, and never saw any of the 13 again except Yoder, from whom he was separated at Travis before the
debriefing and never saw again.
I would appreciate a contact.
Thanks,
Margaret Swaim

Checked out your slides and photos on Pica and they brought back some old memories ... great stuff, you should be please you have them.
I arrived at Tan Son Nhut
from Nha Trang in late December 1969 and headed home on 29 June 70 ... worked Charlie Flight Security, in mostly but not always Bravo Sectors and manned those bunkers and towers you have photos of until March
1970 when I was switched over to Resource Protection Flight (also on Charlie Time) ... the Resource Protection Flight was called "Blue Patrol" ... I'm sure our paths crossed many a night in those 6 months we
worked overnights together.
I sure would like to use some of your photos on my blog:

Comments: I went back through some pictures (35 MM slides) my wife scanned into graphic files in 2005. They are now online at the below link. Perhaps they will be useful to other folks who
were assigned to the 377th.
Unfortunately, I did not talk about or think much of my experiences for many years. As a result, I cannot remember many of the details. The notes I wrote are from some
references my wife found. I hope they are correct, but if anyone has better info, please encourage them to contact me.
I think I have remembered my NCOIC's name for Charlie Flight. It was SMSgt
Leonard Leach. That is the name that keeps coming back to me. If you locate any info on him, please let me know. Also feel free to share the pictures and the link with any of those with interest
in the base.
BTW, I have ordered the two books that were recommended. I will look forward to reading them.

Comments: Greetings to all Brothers and Sisters who served our Country!
Today is a special Anniversary for me, at the time it was the happiest day of my life. 9 Feb, 1970, I returned to the
"World" and received my discharge from the Air Force after a year at Tan Son Nhut.
Since then, a marriage, the birth of two sons and a grandson, and a 25th Wedding Anniversary all rank a little higher on the list.
To all
who returned a little older, wiser, more mature - but at least returned - "Congratulations!"

Comments: Tan Son Nhut Association, My name is Mike Walter. My father was stationed at Tan Son Nhut Air Base, 460th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, during the TET Offensive. His name
is Thomas Walter, he was a Major at the time. He was in Vietnam from November 27, 1967 - November 27, 1968. He received the "Flying Cross," in Vietnam.
Having been told that he
received it from the runway being under attack and he and one or two more pilots got their aircraft up into the air and captured photographs which later led to great intelligence.
Is there a way to find out if there are articles on
this event? I have one article on this event.
I have his military records but they do not contain what his role in Vietnam was. I would like to learn more of this part of his life, to add to our family history
but hope you may lead me in a direction to get started.
I read one of the articles on the attack of the flight line and I have a picture of Holbury presenting his medal. I also have other pics if you would like to add
them to the bulletin board.
Thank you for your time,
Mike Walter

My special thanks and a salute to my friend Charles Penley.
Here it is only 17 days since I first contacted him on Jan 10th. Along with the
information I was able to give him and his expertise we have solved the mystery of the unmentioned attack on the Air Terminal at Tan Son Nuht, in June 1965.
I now have all the information I need to send to the Veterans Affairs.
Along with a news paper article my brother found and Charles finding an article, in the Pacific Stars and Stripes newspaper, I have everything I need to support my story.
This would never have been
accomplished without Charles guiding me along.

Comments: On Jan 21, 2010 one of our Tan Son Nhut Association Members, John Mayfield, requested some assistance in finding a document or newspaper article showing that Tan Son Nhut had been attacked in 1965.
Initially I could not help him in any manner. After his brother found a newspaper article from his home town with the date Jun 24, 1965.
I then had enough information to do a better search for John.
There is a Pacific Stars and Stripes newspaper dated: June 18, 1965, "Hit during Safety Lecture, 46 Americans Injured In Airport Blast."
This attack IS NOT listed in the United States Air Force book, "Air
Base Defense in the Republic of Vietnam 1961-1973, written by Lt. Col. Roger P. Fox, USAF.
The Pacific Stars and Stripes article shows two photographs and a good article.
This took place on Tan Son Nhut Air Base.

Comments: Hello my name is G.W.Wayne, I need help desperately.
I was TDY at Tan Son Nhut from Aug - Oct 1967.
During that time there was an aircraft crash involving two aircraft.
One aircraft was taking off the other was landing.
We were attending an outdoor movie at the TDY barracks for the 773rd TSA Squadron, who were attached to the 834th/315th. We were C-130 support
mechanics.
When the crash occured, we were summonded to go police up the runway for debries which included human remains, as well as ordanance and aircraft parts.
Like many of us, I too did a lousy job of
documentaion but our Veterans Administration wants proof of the pudding. So if anyone out there can help me document this event it would be a great blessing.
May you all find peace and have a joyous holiday

I was there when it was hit in early 1965. I was seeing Sgt Fernando Pola on his way back to PONCE Puerto

I don’t remember how many incoming but it was really scary.
I was on the second floor and it blew out all the windows. A Marine grabs my leg as I was going

Comments: I enjoyed reading the Cal Korf/Brice Gilson article on the rocket attacks of February 1968. I’ve posted this previously, but I was assigned to the 16th TAC Recon Squadron PPIF and worked
the night shift in those trailers. On the first night, I was driving the Chevy pickup to the 1200 area to pick up a couple guys for midnight chow. Other than that, I was on the flight line for the other events and
remember well hearing the huge explosions, running into the bunker and finally hearing the siren go off.
One point I wanted to make was regarding the ‘mortuary trailers.’ They were actually film storage trailers
that held film for the RF-4C’s and RF-101’s that flew for the 12th and 16th TRS, and the RB-57’s assigned to Det 1 45th TRS. They had been temporarily filled with body bags due to the number of Tet casualties overloading
the Army mortuary. Set up for film, their refrigeration units would not cool sufficiently to properly store the bodies, and decomposition was well underway before the first rocket hit them.
At the corner of the trailer
compound was a small supply area that was strictly for Navy Seals, which usually held a pallet or two wrapped in plastic. While unguarded supplies were sometimes “borrowed” on the flight line, no one to my knowledge
ever bothered the Seals stuff. They would be picked up by a solitary man driving a Jeep with a small trailer.

Comments: First of all I hope that everyone had a Merry Christmas and that the New Year will be good for us all.
Lots of good articles in the Jan edition of the Revetments newsletter. I was
particularly interested in the article about the Rocket Attack on Tan Son Nhut. The photos were very interesting. I have one of the chapel about the same as the one posted. Being a support
troop I did not know a lot about the activity on the Flight Line. The comment about some of the details of attack being protected are so TRUE. As you know I was at TSN for the 1968 Tet Offensive and went
through the rocket attacks.
I have heard lots about the damage on the flight line but I am wondering if anyone else witnessed the damage in Ellis Compound where I lived. We had several rockets hit there as well
as the Army heliport located near the compound. Two of our 7th AF airmen were killed there. Ellis Compound was in the same area as the R&R Processing center. If anyone viewing the TSN
web site remembers anything about the Ellis Compound I am very interested in hearing from them.
The article on protecting the TSNA from the Tax people was also interesting. Good luck to the organization in
protecting our status.
